FUSIONS' MEMBERS EXHIBITION - NEW DIRECTIONS
2012 Exhibition is on now until 7 March. My 'new direction' is to form and decorate the ceramic pieces so that the rigid end product seemingly reflects the plastic characteristic of clay (above). Below, more from the exhibition.

INFUSIONS- CERAMIC TEAPOT COMPETITION / EXHIBITION
I participated the exhibition with my Koala Teapot. I had to finish it within a couple of weeks. That is, skecthes, master model in clay, plaster moulds, forced drying of the moulds, casting the slip, bisque firing, glazing and second firing to the maturing temperature.
A few people asked me if the multicoulored marbling decoration was the slip or glaze. Well... It is glaze, not the traditional way.
Though, I did not win the competition, it was quite fun to make it. I hope you like it.
CERAMIC WORKSHOPS IN OCTOBER 2011
• Slip Casting of Ceramics
• Creating Handbuilt Ceramics
Where: Workshops are held at my workshop in Anstead, 10 min drive from Kenmore, West of Brisbane.
Dates: Please Contact on 3202 6574 or info@nazmiozucelik.com
SLIP CASTING OF CERAMICS
The Slip Casting Workshop will introduce the basics of slip (liquid clay) casting technique as a superior forming method in ceramics. Slip casting is practicable and economical way to (re) produce your own artworks.
Main aspects of slip casting will be covered such as, preperation of succesful casting slip, control of slip behaviour, achieving consecutive casting in plaster molds, crack free drying and firing.
Participants will learn through demonstrations and have an opportunity for hands on practice of pouring slip in and out of plaster molds.
Using the technique in a creative way in ceramic art will also be explored.
This highly informative and practical workshop is suitable for beginners, experienced ceramic artists and school teachers.
Duration: Weekend (2 Days)
Cost: $100 including materials.
Materials: No extra charge for the materials unless you require a specific material to use.
CREATING HANDBUILT CERAMICS
This workshop will provide instruction on hand-building techniques (pinch, coil, slab and press-mold) to form your own ceramic work. Modifying textural qualities of the ceramic surfaces by applying clay or decorating into the clay will be explored.
Engobing (base slip for underglazes), glazing and firing techniques will also be discussed.
This class is suitable for beginners or intermediate students who have attended some ceramic classes before.
Duration: 8 weeks
Cost: $240
Materials: $10 charge for the materials.
Firing support: The small sized works created by participants during workshops may be fired at a little cost.
PRIVATE TUITIONS AT MY or YOUR OWN STUDIO

ANIMAL SCULPTURES IN CLAY
Participants who would like to be creative will learn the process of creating 3D sculptures from 2D sketches. Additive and subtractive techniques will be used to form the base shape in clay. The relevant techniques of surface development regarding form, texture and colour will be experimented.
The importance of discrimination in understanding what is acceptable or not acceptable in ceramic figurative art will be discussed.
Duration: Weekend (2 Days)
Cost: $80
Materials: $10 charge for the clays.

MAKING YOUR OWN CERAMIC MIXTURES
The process of making your own base clay mixtures, such as earthenware, stoneware and porcelain in plastic or slip form is more economical and an effective way to learn more about ceramics. It provides total freedom and control in ceramic art.
Through presentation and demonstration we will cover a range of practical, technical information about the behaviour of clays, non clays and the successful formulation of ceramic mixtures for a given firing temperature. Bisque firing, glazing and the durability of the end product will also be explored.
The workshop is especially designed for participants who are keen to look beyond the basics.
Duration - 1 Day
EASY WAY OF GLAZE FORMULATION
Using seger values of ceramic materials is essential when making glazes (fritted or raw). Segers will be calculated from the chemical analysis of raw materials, utilizing software especially developed for this purpose.
Tables and graphics will be used to make the subject more visual and meaningful. The workshop will emphasise the behaviour of different materials and body-glaze matching, which is crucial for making successful glazes and to prevent crazing.
Both theoretical and practical sessions will be included.
The workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as experienced practitioners who would like to make and test glazes and it is specifically designed for participants who are intimidated by terms, such as ‘chemistry’, ‘analysis’, ‘oxides’ and ‘segers’.
Duration - 1 Day
FIRING AND KILN CONTROL
Participants will learn the basics of successful and crack free firing, which is possible through understanding the behaviour of ceramic materials under heat.
Oxidation firing, slight and heavy reduction firing (raku) and their effects on colours will be explored.
During the workshop we will answer crucial questions, such as ‘Is bisque firing always necessary?’, ‘What is the optimum firing regime (curve) and how is it maintained?’, ‘Is kiln load a factor for firing duration?’ and ‘ What are the consequences of nonhomogenious temperature distribution in the kiln?’
This workshop is suitable for participants who have some experience in ceramics.
Duration - 1 Day

Duration: 1 or 2 Days
MOLD MAKING FOR SLIP CASTING
This workshop will introduce sSeveral mold-making methods with plaster, including one, two and three part molds will be explored. The focus will be on the key elements of mold making such as designing and making of the model, types of plaster, preparation and pouring of liquid plaster, dismantling the mold after the curing period, drying the mold and making it ready for the first casting. We will also discuss the correct practice to increase the life of a mold.
Participants will be introduced to mold making and slip casting and they will experiment with the technique, utilizing ready to use objects and plaster molds.
This workshop is suitable for participants who practice slip casting or would like to use slip casting as a forming method in the future.

PAINTING
My painting exhibition was held last month at The Rengigul Art Gallery in Turkey.
Other artists, friends and guests were attended the opening.
Visitors were interested in my technique which I have been working on for the last 3 years and is based on my interpretation of the traditional paper marbling on canvas.
